University Police Officer

Job Summary

Columbus State University has an opening for a University Police Officer in the University Police Department. This position is regular or special duty work, protecting life and property.

Responsibilities

Work involves prevention and detention of crimes, enforcement of state and local laws and rules, as well as enforcement of regulations and policies of Columbus State University and the Board of Regents. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact well with the University community; must be willing to promote cooperation and understanding within the department and organization; must be self- motivated and able to work independently.

Required Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED; must be 21 years of age; and have a valid driver's license. The selected candidate should possess a Georgia P.O.S.T. certification as a peace officer, or the ability to obtain certification.

Proposed Salary

The annualized salary for this position is $34,000.

Columbus State University Police Officer Selection Process:

The selection process for police officers is intended to identify those candidates that are best suited for a rewarding and challenging career in law enforcement. The mission of the Columbus State University Police Department is in part to safeguard the life, liberty and property of all people who may come into contact with the agency. The hiring process helps ensure that the selected candidate best reflects the core values of the Columbus State University Police Department. Each candidate for the position of police officer will be required to submit to the following steps:

1. Initial application submission using the Columbus State University's online employment site.
2. Interview with command staff.
3. Personal History Booklet completed.
4. Background investigation to include a fingerprint check through FBI and GBI.
5. Computer Voice Stress Examination (information provided from application and PHB).
6. Interview with Chief of Police.
7. Conditional offer of employment.
8. Pre-employment physical, pre-employment drug screen and pre-employment psychological.
9. Probationary appointment for six months following basic mandate certification.
