Accountant III

Job Summary

The Office of the Vice President of Business and Finance at Columbus State University is seeking an Accountant III. This position will report to the Comptroller and will perform and assist with various accounting duties.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: reconciling accounts to general ledger; resolving discrepancies in accounting records; preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports; reconciling university bank statements and monitoring checking account for incoming credits; assisting with year-end journal entries and the Annual Financial Report; auditing security roles in PeopleSoft Financials on a quarterly basis; monitoring for the electronic submission of purchase requests and travel expense statements; preparing training documents and providing in person, hands on training for eProcurement, Travel & Expense, and Budget Activity reports; creating business procedures and policies for Accounting, Purchasing, and Bursar's Office; maintaining the VPBF website; acting as administrator for GLACIER software (non-resident alien); preparing 1042S and 1042 forms; submitting taxes as needed for 1042; maintaining files for non-resident aliens for auditing purposes; managing the university's endowment accounts to include creation of the Annual Endowment Report; calculating annual scholarship availability; monitoring compliance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures; preparing Board of Regents financial reports; serving as liaison to other entities in the university; and all other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and a minimum of three to five years' of relevant experience; or in lieu of an Accounting degree, candidate must have completed a minimum of eighteen (18) credit hours of coursework in Accounting. The selected candidate must possess the ability to work independently with sound and independent judgment; considerable initiative; discretion and confidentiality in performing duties; the ability to handle multiple tasks; demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office software; the ability to learn and use institutional software systems; knowledge of standard and advanced accounting procedures and practices; knowledge of local, state, and federal policies and procedures; knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); demonstrated knowledge of accounting information systems; effective time management skills; and possess excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in PeopleSoft Financials or other related higher education software is preferred.

Proposed Salary

The salary range for this position is $40,000 - $45,000 annualized.
