University of California, San Diego

The Climate, Atmospheric Science and Physical Oceanography Division, within the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, at the University of California, San Diego, is conducting a search for a Project Scientist (non-tenured) with a background in marine microbial ecology and biochemistry to support research activities in Prof. Kimberly A. Prather laboratory. The Project Scientist will be expected to conduct independent research in collaboration with Prof. Prather's group, as well as working on existing and new research programs led by Prof. Prather.

At UC San Diego, Project Scientists are academic researchers who are expected to make significant and creative contributions to a research team, but are not necessarily leaders of the research team. Project Scientists may not serve as a Principal Investigator but may serve as Co-Principal Investigators with members of the Professor or Research Scientist series. University and public service are encouraged but not required, and they do not have formal teaching responsibilities. Appointments durations vary depending on the length of the research project and availability of funding.

Required Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD in marine microbiology or equivalent with at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience. Candidates must be able to provide evidence of collaborative research.

Preferred Qualifications: Research interest in marine microbiology, biogeochemistry and the cycling of trace gases. A demonstrated ability to obtain funding (including fellowships, travel awards, and funding proposals).

Appointment will be at Assistant or Associate Project Scientist level based on background and years of experience. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.

Review of applications will commence on May 31, 2019 and will be ongoing. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on published University of California pay scales. Applications (CV, Research Statement, and Cover letter, at minimum) must be submitted to the UCSD on-line application collection system, AP-On-Line Recruit, at: https://apolrecruit.ucsd.edu/apply/JPF02120 .
