JOB SUMMARY:

Work to enhance the overall educational experience of students by fostering learning and leadership opportunities, providing a teamwork approach in support of the activities program and assisting with the coordination and the advisement of Student Affairs programs. Along with the other Assistant Directors, there will be principal areas of responsibility for each Assistant Director described in the following section.

REPORTS TO: Director, Center for Student Involvement

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  1. Oversee the area of Multicultural Affairs and coordinate diversity programs and trainings.
  2. Provide outreach and advocacy to students of underserved populations.
  3. Serve as point person for diversity related issues and concerns.
  4. Supervise diversity education and diversity initiatives of the campus and programs of the department such as Safe Zone Training, CORE (Creating On-Going Respect and Equity Training) and other initiatives
  5. Oversee, facilitate, and assess Adelphi University's programming and outreach focused on LQBTQ+ (including lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning) community.
  6. Counsel, advise, and consult with students, faculty, staff and alumni individually and collectively to embrace the importance of building an inclusive, appreciative, and welcoming environment
  7. Assist in the general advisement of diversity related student clubs and organizations.
  8. Assist in the coordination of Civic Engagement and Service Programs including but not limited to First-Year Community Action Program (FCAP), Alternative Breaks, Panther Day of Service, Blood Drives, Toys for Tots, Adelphi Gives Back Month and AUCares Days
  9. Assist in professional coverage of evening and weekend programming.
  10. Assist in the development and implementation of all student orientation programs.
  11. Assist in the development of a comprehensive marketing and promotion strategy for the department including oversight of departmental social media accounts.
  12. Assist in major departmental initiatives including Welcome Weekend, Spirit Weekend, and Commencement.
  13. Other areas of responsibility may include: commuter student services, student leadership development, transfer student initiatives, class government advisement, student organization training, and office technology management.
  14. Assist in department and division assessment efforts.
  15. Assist in the hiring process and training of personnel.
  16. Serve on university committees and taskforces as needed including those focused on diversity and inclusion.
  17. Assist in inter-departmental initiatives within the Division of Student Affairs.
  18. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

  8. Strong computer skills using Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Excel, Design Software, Social Media and E-mail.
  9. Ability to promote high ethical standards and manage multiple tasks.
  10. Ability to interact with a diverse student body.
  11. Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
  12. Evening and weekend work required.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Master's Degree preferred in Higher Education related discipline, plus 1-2 years job-related experience in a University setting is a must. Experience with multicultural/diversity programs and civic engagement/community service programs is strongly preferred.
