JOB SUMMARY:

Enhance the overall educational experience of students by proposing, planning and implementing opportunities to engage students in meaningful student development, learning, leadership, and scholarship. Efforts should be guided by current professional standards for the field of Student Affairs, and a collaborative approach involving faculty and other stakeholders. This includes coordinating and advising regarding existing and new Student Affairs programs designed to support first-year student success. As with the other Assistant Directors, there will be other principal areas of responsibility outside the main focus in order to support the many functions of the Center of Student Involvement.



REPORTS TO: Director, Center for Student Involvement

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  1. Oversee First Year and Transfer student engagement.
  2. Develop programming and services that support undergraduates' transition to college, engaging first year experiences, persistence and success.
  3. Assist with the implementation of key first-year experiences in conjunction with campus partners including living learning communities and freshmen seminar activities.
  4. Oversee, facilitate and assess Adelphi University's new student and transfer student orientation programs.
  5. Collaborate with the faculty, staff, and administration to build institutional awareness, support program assessment efforts, and provide consultation for campus partners regarding central issues affecting undergraduate student success including retention and persistence of its first time in college freshmen students.
  6. Recruit, train and supervise student staff responsible for aiding the transition to college including Orientation Leaders, Peer Assistant Leaders and Transfer Commuter Assistants.
  7. Collaborate with the AU Community Reads committee on the selection of the common year book and coordinate programming around the selection.
  8. Co-manage the Welcome Week program with the Associate/Assistant Director of the Center for Student Involvement.
  9. Assist in the general advisement of student clubs and organizations.
  10. Assist in professional coverage of evening and weekend programming.
  11. Assist in the development of a comprehensive marketing and promotion strategy for the department.
  12. Assist in department and division assessment efforts.
  13. Serve on university committees and task forces as needed including those focused on new and transfer student transition and retention efforts.
  14. Assist in inter-departmental initiatives within the Division of Student Affairs.
  15. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

  9. Ability to promote high ethical standards and manage multiple tasks.
  10. Ability to interact with a diverse student body.
  11. Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
  12. Evening and weekend work required.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Master's Degree preferred in Higher Education related discipline, plus 1-2 years job-related experience in a University setting is a must.
