Assistant Director for Athlete Career Development

The Center for Career Development (CCD) has established a new position, Assistant Director for Athlete Career Development. This experienced professional will join the highly dynamic Center for Career Development (CCD) team, committed to providing student-centered career exploration and career management programs and services. The Center strives to be a national leader in career development by providing students hands on support at a liberal arts college. This growing and innovative team is dedicated to working collaboratively, with each other and the student body,  and partners with various campus offices and external stakeholders to provide the best-in-class support and direction for our students. The successful candidate will have a keen understanding of career development and student learning, a strong commitment to the liberal arts, and demonstrated skills engaging stakeholders through highly effective communications and programming.

 

The Role:

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the office of Alumni and Family Engagement and the Athletics department to strengthen the Davidson Career Advisor Network (DCAN) and other resources to build a network of alumni and friends who are committed to providing mentorship and professional opportunities for scholar athletes
  • Coach current scholar athletes and recent alumni in career planning and preparation activities including: career consultations; internships; job and fellowship applications; mock interviews; job shadowing; and graduate school searches
  • Oversee career education and professional development programming for scholar athletes, as well as informational sessions for athletic recruits visiting campus
  • In coordination with the Athletics department, provide regular training for holistic and faculty advisors and administrative and coaching staffs; meet with coaches and athletic administration on a regular basis
  • Maintain working knowledge and documentation of employment and graduate school outcomes and trends for scholar athletes, regularly synthesizing and communicating that information to the Executive Director of the CCD and the Athletic Director; serve  as a resource for colleagues related to  scholar athlete career development questions
  • Work with other Career Development team members to identify internships and full-time opportunities for scholar athletes
  • Demonstrate a commitment to NCAA rules, compliance, and adherence to NCAA regulations.
  • The position will report to the Executive Director in the CCD in close collaboration with Davidson Athletics

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience in project management, events coordination, communication or brand activation preferred
  • Experience with undergraduate student advising (in a liberal arts environment) preferred
  • Experience as a scholar athlete or in working with scholar athletes in a career development role preferred
  • Proven relationship building and management skills with multiple internal and external stakeholders; ability to develop a network of supporters across multiple career disciplines and geographic locations
  • Sensitivity to and ability to operate in a cross-cultural setting
  • Able to fulfill evening and weekend duties

 

Davidson College is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and competes as a Division I institution. Davidson’s primary conference is the Atlantic-10 Conference.  As a member of the A-10, we fall under its governance structure and abide by its rules and regulations.  Football is classified in the FCS Football division and competes in the Pioneer League Football Conference.  Wrestling continues to compete in the Southern Conference. Davidson serves approximately 450 scholar athletes spread among 21 sports.  A little over 25% of the student body population are varsity scholar athletes.
