JOB SUMMARY:

The Adelphi University Innovation Center is an inclusive space that connects pedagogy with real-world opportunities for engagement with external partners, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary and design thinking methods.

The Director provides leadership and strategic vision to a multi-disciplinary Center linking academic programs and colleges across the University to external corporate, non-profit, government, and community partners. The Director will engage with industry and community partners to define opportunities and connect partners with Adelphi faculty and students. The Director is charged with partnering with the academic deans and faculty in the design of innovative educational programming and strategic industry and community outreach to create opportunities for faculty to pursue research and educational partnerships. The Director will be responsible for envisioning, developing and implementing a robust culture across the University and the local region to support the Innovation Center.

REPORTS TO: Provost and Executive Vice President

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  1. Work in close collaboration with the academic deans to support Adelphi degree and non-degree programs designed to provide innovative and experiential learning opportunities for students.
  2. Recruit external partners from the region to work with faculty and students in the Innovation Center.
  3. Support faculty innovation by making resources available to meet faculty needs
  4. Works with community stakeholders and advances community partnerships on behalf of the Innovation Center to stimulate economic development.
  5. Oversee the day to day operation of the Innovation Center facility, including financial management, marketing the facility, recruiting potential corporate and community partners, and maintaining the infrastructure of the facility.
  6. Serve as the public face of the Innovation Center: make presentations to interested parties and network to recruit partners and to increase press coverage for the Innovation Center in collaboration with University Communications team.
  7. Develop public and professional educational events.
  8. Develop publications focused on healthcare, business, finance, data analytics, and technology industries.
  9. Ensure operations allow for the safe conduct and accomplishment of tenant startups, labs, and manufacturing activities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Master's degree required.
  2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration across Adelphi.
  3. Thorough understanding of the principles of shared governance in higher education.
  4. Proven ability to build corporate and community partnerships.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population.
  6. Knowledge of IP, technology transfer, and related legal issues in higher education or R&D setting.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. At least five years of senior-level positions in an academic, business or other industry setting, and experience with multi-constituent projects and new project management.
  2. Strong understanding of higher education preferred.
