Applications are currently being accepted for Instructional Lab Technician / Allied Health in the School of Health Sciences and Public Service, located at San Diego Mesa College. Hours are Monday - Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department's needs.

Please note that an employee may be transferred to any site at the option of the Chancellor.

Major Responsibilities

Oversee the operation and maintenance of instructional laboratory/clinic environments and equipment in Allied Health programs.

Prepare and issue equipment and materials for student use in laboratory/clinic environments, as well as clean and reset laboratory/clinical environments after use.

Assist instructors, staff, and students in the use of a variety of Allied Health equipment, materials, and supplies.

Maintain equipment and supply inventories for Allied Health programs.

Prepare, maintain, and monitor Allied Health laboratory/clinic equipment and supply budgets, records, and reports.

Collect, prepare, and maintain information for student program records, as well as monitoring students during laboratory/clinical assignments.

Assist faculty in preparing and maintaining records as required by Allied Health external accrediting agencies.

Operate a microcomputer using word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, and other materials.

Desired Qualifications:
Graduate of an allied health program. One year of experience in the field of medicine, dental, or health care. Demonstrate competence in laboratory/clinic techniques and equipment commonly required in medical, dental, or health care settings. Demonstrate competence in the application of safety regulations involving the preparation and handling of chemicals. Demonstrate knowledge and competence in proper hazardous waste handling, storage and disposal for both chemical and biological materials. Demonstrate competence in basic laboratory/clinic safety and first aid. Ensure the care, maintenance, and security of equipment and supplies. Utilize equipment and computer technology as appropriate to office and clinic laboratories. Plan and organize work to meet schedules and deadlines. Maintain records, prepare reports and order supplies as needed. Work independently with little direction. Train, direct and support other lab technicians and/or student workers. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with faculty, other laboratory/clinic technicians, administrators and students. Currency in contemporary practice. Computer experience with a range of applications such as word processing, excel spreadsheets, presentations, and internet applications.Valid BLS Certification

Pay Information:
Range 23 ($3,717.84 $5,934.51) per month based on the current AFT Classified Unit Office Technical Salary Schedule.

Initial salary placement is commensurate with related experience and promotional rules. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid: medical, dental, and vision plans; sick and vacation leave; and opportunities for professional development. Initial Salary Placement, Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 Classified Staff Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is FLSA Non-Exempt and may accrue overtime. A temporary probationary period will be applied to the employee entering this assignment.
