Assistant Professor, Biology

Position Title: Assistant Professor, Biology

School: School of Science

Job Summary: The School of Science at Marist College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as an Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Biology, beginning August 2019. Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field and a strong interest in undergraduate education. Although prior teaching experience is desirable, the potential to develop superior teaching skills and continually develop as a teacher are essential. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. The successful candidate will teach introductory biology for science majors, an upper-level immunology course, and the biology senior capping class. The candidate may also teach additional upper-level courses in their area of expertise and/or courses that support the College Core Curriculum. Teaching responsibilities include 9 and 12 contact hours per week in alternating semesters. Marist recognizes teaching as the most important professional activity; however, scholarship and service to the College are also required. Faculty are expected to develop an active research program involving undergraduates and leading to peer-reviewed scientific publications. The successful applicant will join a department characterized by a strong sense of community in which students are the central focus and faculty are both accessible and approachable. The ideal candidate is expected to collaborate with other faculty to provide an effective learning environment.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field
  • Enthusiasm for teaching undergraduates and evidence of excellent teaching or potential to develop into an excellent teacher
  • Plans for a research program with the ability to include undergraduate research
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications: At least one year of postdoctoral research experience
