Academic Program Coordinator, Lerner College of Business & Economics

PAY GRADE: 29E

CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

Under the general direction of the Senior Assistant Dean, Student Services, the Academic Program Coordinator is responsible for providing academic and support program and services to students in the Lerner College of Business & Economics with an emphasis on providing targeted programming to students from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, first-generation and low-income students via the UDREAM program. Primary duties of the Academic Program Coordinator include advising and providing appropriate referrals to undergraduate students within the UDREAM program as well as providing academic programming to all B&E undergraduates in collaboration with Undergraduate Advising Center (UAC) staff; assisting with seminars and orientation sessions to educate faculty and students about academic policies and procedures. The Academic Program Coordinator supports the Colleges recruitment efforts by representing the College at university-level recruitment events. The position is responsible for managing the UDREAM program and Academic Coaching and tutoring programs.



MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide academic support program services to students in the Lerner College of Business & Economics with an emphasis on providing targeted programming to students from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, first-generation and low-income students via the UDREAM program. With primary focus on students in Lerner from underrepresented populations, provide advisement services to undergraduates, and also those on probation, in dismissal status, and first generation students, and those identified at risk.
  • Interpret policy, explain GPA and academic standing, review transfer credits, and provide guidance on majors, minors, and other related academic matters.
  • Coordinate and develop UDREAM Peer Mentoring program utilizing current student volunteers to mentor at risk students.
  • Provide advisement and support services to specialized undergraduate populations including transfer students.
  • Coordinate student programming in consultation with other UAC staff and in collaboration with campus-wide units (Academic Enrichment Center, etc.) to provide targeted programming to students based on academic needs and interests.
  • Work with Faculty, Undergraduate Research Program, McNair Scholars Program and Lerner Career Services to coordinate connected referrals for students interested in undergraduate research, graduate and professional degrees and internships.
  • Provide support and referral services to students, working with offices such as the Dean of Students Office, the Office of Student Conduct, the Center for Counseling and Student Development, Career Services, Admissions, and Housing & Residence Life.
  • Support Lerner undergraduate recruitment efforts by assisting with and representing the Undergraduate Academic Services at special events and programs for prospective students and families; and representing the College and University at recruitment events, such as Blue and Golden Saturdays, Discovery Days, and Decision Days.
  • Maintain the UDREAM program website and assist in development of PR materials.
  • Oversight of the Delaware in DC program for Lerner students, coordinating their initial registration, transfer credit issues, math placement and subsequent transfer to main campus. Work closely with BE in DC program coordinator.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree with 2-3 years related experience. Master's degree preferred.
  • Degree in student personnel, college counseling or other related field preferred.
  • Ability to present effectively to small and large groups and to work productively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to grasp, retain, and disseminate an extensive and varied body of information.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and employ decision making skills under the guidance of the supervisor.
  • Ability to evaluate student transcripts and/or records. Knowledge of academic standards governing student probation, suspension, and/or expulsion and student recruitment and retention issues.
  • Ability to communicate to student's course prerequisites, certification, and/or curriculum/graduation requirements.
  • Advanced working knowledge of advisement policies, procedures, systems, regulations, and standards at the university level.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to analyze, summarize, and effectively present data.
  • Proficient computer skills including use of presentation software, Excel, Access, and experience with UDSIS.
