Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University

The School of Art in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track appointment in Digital Photography at the Instructor level beginning Fall 2019 for a one-year, renewable appointment. The position will serve undergraduate students in the School of Art's digital photography online program. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellence in teaching photography to students at all experience levels.

Programs within the School of Art lead to the degrees of Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Art with concentrations in art history, art studies, museum studies; an online BA in art history; Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Art with concentrations in art education and a broad number of mediums; Master of Arts (MA) in Art with concentrations in art history or art education; and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Art. In addition, the school participates in the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs in Design, Environment and the Arts housed within the Herberger Institute. With several nationally ranked programs and one of the largest comprehensive art programs in a public research university in the United States, the ASU School of Art plays a prominent role within the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts and is located on both the Tempe and downtown Phoenix campuses.

ASU's digital photography curriculum embraces the full gamut of photographic materials and technologies as well as creative practices that cross boundaries with other disciplines both within and beyond art. The program seeks candidates with rich and varied skillsets that may include traditional and digital processes. This Instructor will deliver lectures and instruction online to majors in Digital Photography. The successful candidate will have extensive experience teaching photography to students with diverse backgrounds and interests. Courses will include all levels of photography, lower and upper division undergraduate courses.

The Herberger Institute seeks candidates capable of growing dynamic and innovative degree programs, who can help attract new students and teach courses that support enrollment goals, enhance the diversity connecting artists, designers, and scholars across campus and in the community.

Required Qualifications:

  • MFA or equivalent terminal degree
  • At least 3 years of university teaching
  • Experience teaching all undergraduate levels
  • Evidence of commitment to diversity and inclusion in creative activity, research, teaching and service

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in teaching online or hybrid courses to photography majors and non-majors
