The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) and The Polytechnic School (TPS) seeks dynamic, creative, and talented individuals to fill faculty positions at the rank of Lecturer in the Information Technology (IT) program.  This is a non-tenure track appointment with a fixed term academic year contract at The Polytechnic School, located on the Polytechnic Campus, and beginning in fall 2019.

 

The IT program is housed on the Polytechnic Campus and resides in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering.  The IT program curriculum is a unique program using a professional practice model, with integrated, active learning strategies, incorporating increasing levels of difficulty.  The program offers a Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science in Information Technology.

The new IT faculty members will be expected to contribute to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching (both online and face-to-face) in one or more of the following IT disciplines:

  • Cybersecurity: information security & privacy, digital networking and network security, security management, cybersecurity laws, cybersecurity operations, network forensics, network defense and countermeasures, penetration testing, reverse engineering, database security/auditing, and malware analysis & risk management.
  • Big data and data management: In-depth knowledge about Hadoop Architecture and HDFS including YARN, Expertise in writing and Hands on knowledge of Pig Latin Scripts and HiveQL, Proven Knowledge of workflow/ schedulers: Oozie, Ability to deal with Data Loading tools: Flume and SqoopHive, Knowledge of MapReduce, HBase, NoSQL databases such as MongoDB and Couch-base, and Spark and Scala.
  • Network systems architecture: Develop and design undergraduate course work for Network systems administration and systems architecture engaging in procedures, program assessment, and service to the Department, specializing in windows platform, Visual Studio, domains using active directory VM configuration.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Earned MS in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Science Education, or a closely related field
  • Academic background commensurate with teaching courses in one or more of the subject areas listed above

 

 

 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • PhD in a related area
  • Relevant academic experience; including teaching one or more of the IT relevant subject areas.  Teaching experience to include both on campus and on-line interactions that incorporate lecture and instructional-based labs and activities integrated into course material.  Working with students in developing a Capstone development project that demonstrates acquired knowledge during his/her course of instruction.  Course development: experience in developing new courses or modifying courses for on-line delivery; including creating relevant labs and activities that can be completed by both on campus and on-line students
  • Relevant industry experience:  Background in working in industry in one of the related IT disciplines
