Chemistry, Instructional Professional

The Science and Mathematics Faculty in the College of Integrated Sciences and Arts at the Polytechnic campus of Arizona State University is seeking a highly motivated, energetic and passionate individual to fill an Instructional Professional position in chemistry.  The Instructional Professional will be part of a team that includes chemistry faculty and other instructional staff dedicated to quality instruction. Instructional Professionals are primarily responsible for laboratory and recitation instruction.  Additional responsibilities include the design of curriculum and instructional programs, modification of lab exercises, and delivery of instruction.  Instructional Professionals are responsible for set-up and take down of labs and grading of student assignments.  Teaching load is typically 5 to 6 labs per semester or an equivalent combination of recitations and laboratory sections.  Teaching and/or lab curriculum development during summer sessions is expected.  Course load is determined by the faculty head.

This is a fiscal year appointment 7/1/2019 to 6/30/2020; and may be prorated based upon actual start date.  Instructional Professional positions are fixed-term, benefits-eligible, fiscal-year, academic professional appointments with no continuing/probationary implications.  This is not a tenure-track position.   Renewal is contingent upon availability of funds, satisfactory performance, and the needs of the university.  Salary is competitive and dependent upon qualifications, experience and rank.  Candidates must reside in Arizona or be willing to relocate.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Chemistry or closely related field at time of appointment
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness in instructional activities, e.g., teaching, tutoring, mentoring, academic coaching
  • Commitment to meeting the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree in Chemistry or closely related field at the time of appointment
  • Demonstrated experience teaching chemistry laboratories at the undergraduate college level
  • Demonstrated experience in laboratory exercise design, preparation and implementation
  • Experience in course management systems such as Canvas and online homework systems
