Nursing Faculty, Practical Nursing

 

Rappahannock Community College, a two-campus institution serving a rural 12-county area in the Chesapeake Bay region of Virginia, seeks applicants for the following faculty-ranked teaching position in Practical Nursing. This position is a nine-month appointment with an excellent benefits package. Salary commensurate with education and experience. Position begins August 16, 2019.

 

The College desires candidates with a commitment to the community college mission and experience working with a diverse student population, including adult learners and at-risk students. The successful candidate will be committed to academic excellence, continuous improvement through professional development, assessment, program and course development, and creating a collegial environment of civility, collaboration and open communication. The college strives for a faculty of content experts who are also knowledgeable about best practices, innovative strategies, and instructional technologies that support teaching and learning. Outreach and service to the college community (developing partnerships, academic advising, and committee work and faculty governance) along with the ability to teach 15 credits per semester. Finalists will be asked to perform a teaching demonstration.

 

The successful candidate will participate in curriculum oversight, student placement in clinical sites, student and faculty development and assessment and evaluation responsibilities for the program. Teaching assignments and schedule may include day and evening assignments, cross-campus or off-campus assignments, and teaching concurrently enrolled high school students.

 

The general responsibilities for Nursing Instructor on both campuses are to teach lecture, lab and clinical courses in Certificate in Practical Nursing (PN) program or the Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) program. Other duties will include, but are not limited to, facilitating student learning through in class and out of class activities, maintaining up to date knowledge in nursing and trends in community college and nursing education, and teach using a variety of delivery systems including interactive video, web, and other electronic media. Teaching faculty will advise students, adopt textbooks, draft course syllabi in collaboration with colleagues, set up, maintain lab/classroom environments, and participate in program, division and college governance committees.

 

Qualifications Required: Master's degree in Nursing; current RN license in Virginia or Compact State licensure; experience in nursing education and proficiency in the use of instructional technology in a pre-licensure professional or technical nursing program. Demonstrated clinical competence in providing direct patient care. Ability to communicate effectively with students and peers. Candidates should possess sufficient technology skills to work productively in an organization that utilizes significant information and instructional technology resources. Knowledge in curriculum development and implementation and a thorough knowledge of Virginia Board of Nursing requirements for nursing programs and faculty required.

 

Qualifications Preferred: Leadership experience as a program head in PN or ADN program either current or past. Certified Nurse Educator designation preferred. Expertise in general medical-surgical or acute medical-surgical, and at least one specialty area including pediatrics, maternity, psychiatric nursing and community-based nursing. Considerable experience teaching in nursing (lecture and labs). Experience with the systematic plan of evaluation for external regulatory and accreditation agencies preferred.

 

Salary is commensurate with education and experience for a nine-month appointment; excellent benefits package. Satisfactory reference and criminal background checks are a condition of employment.
