Assistant Professor (Ladder Rank/ In Residence) Psychiatry

Assistant Professor (Ladder Rank/ In Residence) Psychiatry

University of California, San Diego

The Department of Psychiatry within the School of Medicine at UC San Diego (http://psychiatry.ucsd.edu/Pages/default.aspx) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body.

The UCSD Department of Psychiatry seeks to recruit basic scientists, clinical scientists, and translational scientists whose work illuminates the nature, mechanisms, and treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders. The Department wishes to attract basic scientists who are exploring the fundamental processes underlying common components of cognitive, mood, temperamental, and motivational disturbances in neuropsychiatric conditions. For example, investigators may be exploring the molecular, cellular, and neural network connectivity bases of learning and memory, attentional and executive processes, or their genetic regulation. Additional examples of areas of basic science and translational interests would include, but are not limited to, exploration of signaling pathways in the central nervous system that have received less attention but may be important in understanding the bases and treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders, such as the endocannabinoid system. Translational research could embrace areas such as basic studies on circadian rhythms, as well as studies on sleep disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, addictive disorders, neurocognitive disorders, and their treatment, including their genetic regulation.

Applicants must have an M.D., Ph.D., or the equivalent. MDs and PhDs with clinical training applying for a faculty position need to be eligible or hold appropriate clinical licenses in the State of California, and will be expected to be willing to do sufficient clinical work to demonstrate relevance of their research to real problems of patients and their families. Appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level. Series will include 100% Ladder Rank, or 50% Ladder Rank and 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.
