Position/Job Summary

The Ithaca College Department of Mathematics announces the search for its Post-doctoral Fellowship in Mathematics Promoting Access and Equity in Teaching for 2019-20.

This fellowship supports promising scholars in the mathematical sciences who are also committed to increasing access and equity in mathematics. The Ithaca College Department of Mathematics is a community of teachers, learners, and scholars focused on supporting and mentoring students through innovative teaching, interaction outside of class, collaborating on research, and social events. We are committed to identifying and addressing factors that improve access to high-quality mathematics and are looking for individuals who are eager to contribute to this ongoing effort. This experience will prepare the fellowship recipient for tenure track appointments within liberal arts or comprehensive colleges/universities.

Special consideration will be given to individuals with interest and/or experience in implementing mathematics-teaching practices that promote all students' opportunity to learn. We particularly encourage members of historically underrepresented groups in mathematics to apply.

Position/Job Qualifications

This fellowship spans two academic years (August 16, 2019 to May 31, 2021) and is non-renewable, and non-tenure eligible. The fellowship recipient will receive a $55,000 stipend, $5,000 in travel/professional development support, relocation reimbursement, office space, health benefits, and access to Ithaca College and Cornell University libraries.

The recipient is responsible for teaching two courses each semester in areas that match their interest and/or expertise and reflect the department's curricular needs. The recipient will work closely with departmental faculty, while receiving mentorship in teaching and research in preparation for their future independent academic career.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. from an accredited program by August 2019 in mathematics, applied mathematics, mathematics (or statistics) education, statistics, data science, or a related discipline. Evidence of superior academic achievement and commitment to a career in teaching at the college or university level is required.

The successful candidate will provide evidence of interest in teaching mathematics in ways that ensure access to high-quality teaching and appropriate support for a diverse group of students. We also seek candidates who have relevant experience and/or a record of professional engagement with groups and communities underrepresented in mathematics.

Fellows who show an exemplary record of teaching, scholarship, and engagement in academic service throughout their fellowship may be considered as candidates for any tenure-eligible appointments in the department that begin in the Fall of 2021.

EEO Statement

Ithaca College is committed to building a diverse academic community and encourages members of underrepresented groups to apply. Experience that contributes to the diversity of the college is appreciated.
