ABOUT AIC

American International College is a private, coeducational institution of higher education located on a 70+ acre campus in Springfield, Massachusetts. The campus has 42 buildings on two sites approximately 1/2 mile apart with a total of approximately 660,000 gross square feet. Included in the inventory of buildings are student residences for a resident population of 900 students. Founded in 1885, the College has 3700 graduate and undergraduate students. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Manages the overall operation of assigned residence hall(s). Works closely with the Assistant Director for Residence Education to implement the overall philosophy, programming model, vision and strategic plan for AIC's residence life program.
  • Shares responsibility for adjudicating hall level student conduct meetings for alleged policy violations.
  • Serves in a duty rotation and is expected to respond on a 24 hour basis to any emergency or incident in the campus community. Nightly rounds are also a requirement of the duty rotation.
  • Supervises and evaluates a staff of 4-8 Resident Advisors.
  • Assists in the Resident Advisor recruitment, selection, and training process.
  • Coordinates building opening and closing procedures, as well as manages building rosters. Oversees room changes in coordination with other Residence Life professionals and manages the collection of Room Condition Reports and other appropriate building paperwork.
  • Supervises the Residence Hall Council for their perspective Residence Hall and personally plans at least two building programs per semester. Works with their RA staff to plan and execute one All Campus Program per year under the direction of the Residence Life leadership team.
  • Coordinates maintenance requests for the building and develops working relationships with Maintenance, Buildings & Grounds, Housekeeping, Campus Police and Dining Services.
  • Devotes significant time to enhancing student development through intentional interactions, working with students to develop leadership skills, personal responsibility, and community development.
  • Fire safety compliance, inspection, and evacuation
  • Serves as a member of an assigned departmental project, group, or committee such as the residential first year experience, 413 Conference, or living/learning community task force.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Required Degree(s): Bachelors
  • Preferred Degree(s): Masters
  • Preferred Field of Expertise: Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel Administration, Student Affairs Administration

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Ability to maintain an effective, cooperative working relationship with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Knowledge of all emergency procedures (fires, accidents, illnesses, etc.) and preparedness to handle them
  • Understanding of student development/mentorship/coaching models to support, encourage, and follow-up with students in making better decisions
  • Demonstrated experience with student and community development, supervision, and crisis management.
  • Applicants should possess a commitment and ability to create communities that are inclusive of diverse populations.

WORK SCHEDULE

The Residence Director position is a full time, twelve (12) month, exempt level position not limited to 35 hours per week. Hours of work are flexible to the needs of the department. This is a live-on, benefit eligible position.
