Clinical Counselor

Position Title: Clinical Counselor

Department: Counseling Services

Job Summary: Marist College Office of Counseling Services is seeking a full-time clinical counselor to join our growing, dynamic, and collaborative counseling center. Counseling Services is committed to enhancing student mental health through culturally informed care while promoting a campus culture of inclusiveness, equity and diversity. This is a 9-month position. The successful candidate will provide a range of services to a diverse student population, including intakes; individual psychotherapy; group therapy; consultations; crisis intervention; on-call rotation; and innovative and inclusive outreach programming.

Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology from an APA accredited program; Master's degree in Clinical Social Work or Mental Health Counseling. Must be licensed or license-eligible in New York State within one year of assuming position. A minimum of three years of experience working with student populations reflective of the Marist campus.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide culturally competent intakes and individual therapy.
  • Conduct culturally competent group counseling.
  • Provide risk assessments and crisis interventions including facilitating referrals for hospital psychiatric evaluations; consult with involved professionals, college staff and families when indicated.
  • Participate in emergency on-call rotation after-hours and weekends to assess students in acute distress and coordinate crisis intervention response in consultation with the Director.
  • Provide consultations to faculty, staff, students, families, and administration on student behavioral and mental health concerns through phone and in-person contacts and participation in campus-wide committees.
  • Assist in developing and implementing multi-culturally competent prevention and outreach programs for diverse student and campus constituencies on an array of mental health-related issues. Collaborate and liaison with faculty, staff, students, administration and community providers to promote campus-wide health, diversity, equity and inclusivity.
  • Maintain current, accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with legal, ethical and professional guidelines and Counseling Services policies using Titanium Schedule electronic records.
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong generalist skills with specialization and/or expertise in interpersonal psychotherapy, DBT, ACT, and/or other evidence-based practices.
  • Demonstrated dedication and attentiveness to multicultural issues, social justice and intersectionality in serving historically marginalized students as well as commitment to ongoing development of cultural competencies.
  • Proven interest, experience and commitment to facilitating groups.
  • Effective at designing/presenting trainings and outreach programs to students, faculty, staff.
  • Flexibility responding to high demand for services and changing program needs.
  • Committed self-care practice to maintain resilience.
  • Familiarity with Titanium electronic medical record.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

Counseling Services is a thriving center providing culturally- and trauma-informed services to undergraduate and graduate students while supporting the greater Marist community. Services include individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, psychiatric services and campus-wide psychoeducational programs/outreach. Our multidisciplinary staff consists of psychologists, clinical social workers, mental health counselors, graduate interns, a psychiatrist and consulting nutritionist.
