Job Purpose
The Artist in Residence (AIR) program provides a creative, residential environment for emerging professional artists and broadens student and faculty awareness of new approaches and techniques. The Craft Center's mission is to offer the finest studio professional craft education through the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, Certificate of Accomplishment and workshop programs, and to provide a regional cultural resource through the workshop, exhibition, and gallery programs.

Essential Functions
The AIR will work 20 hours per week overseeing studio upkeep and providing instructional support. Studio duties include maintenance and repair of equipment and supervision of the hot and cold glass studios. The resident must produce a significant body of studio work while showing a high level of technical expertise and aesthetic merit. Instructional assistance includes occasional teaching duties during faculty absence, periodic class demonstrations, participation in class discussions, and/or mid-term and final group reviews. During the Craft Center's summer workshop season the AIR manages studio operations, facilities and inventory and ordering of supplies under supervision of the program manager.

Minimum Qualifications
BFA degree or equivalent. Complete working knowledge of glass studio operations and equipment use. Selection will consider the candidate's potential artistic and professional growth within the residency, technical skills in studio and equipment maintenance, and potential for instructional support.

Preferred Qualifications
MFA or equivalent professional experience. Selection will consider the candidate's artistic and professional growth as well as the display of their given technical skills in blowing, cold working and or warm glass practices and equipment maintenance.

Work Hours
20 hours per week. One year appointment, August 20, 2019-August 19, 2020. The resident may be invited back for one additional year at the request of the Craft Center for a possible total of two years as a resident.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary A stipend of $1620.00 annually is provided, which is paid in monthly increments of $135 by direct deposit. This is a part-time grant funded position; its continuation is contingent upon future funding. Anticipated Vacancy.
Benefits Information
Residence in Craft Center housing is a required condition of employment. Single occupancy bedroom with private bath (whether married or single, cooking and lounge facilities are shared with other residents), individual studio space and 24 hour studio access are provided. Benefits include the accumulation of annual and sick leave on a prorated basis equal to the percentage of employment, and thirteen (13) pro-rated University holidays. Other benefits include pro-rated retirement, optional 401k, and educational benefits. Also, opportunities for additional employment through workshop and outreach programs may be available.
