Fundraising/Development Writer ? Part-time


Salisbury University, a member of the University System of Maryland, is a regionally accredited four-year comprehensive institution offering 58 distinct graduate and undergraduate programs. Located on the historic Eastern Shore, SU's beautiful campus is some 30 miles from the Atlantic beaches and 2.5 hours from Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Fundraising/Development Writer for the Fundraising Campaign.

Primary Job Duties: The Fundraising/Development Writer will report to the SU staff Editor and serves as a brand champion, editor, and writer for a wide range of communication projects that support Salisbury University's Fundraising Campaign content strategy and development goals. This position ensures the language, style, formatting, and brand remain consistent. In a highly collaborative environment, the position requires strong relationships with central communications, marketing and development teams. It also plays a key role in applying donor-centric messaging to donor communications and donor engagement materials including but not limited to developing a training program for gift officers, school leadership and lead volunteers; strategies for new messaging to communicate funding priorities and initiatives for donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. It contributes to the donor acknowledgement process by developing and editing all correspondence templates (solicitation letters, briefings, condolence letters, congratulations letters, etc.). Creates support materials for gift officers that include talking points, strategic initiative summaries, as well as updates cultivation, solicitation and stewardship materials. Creates original content for the University's online giving website and social media posts. Will be responsible for other writing projects such as correspondence, reports, web content, talking points, development-related articles for the SU Alumni Magazine, as well as other collateral and collaborative projects across the institution.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree. Two years of professional experience in business or technical writing, journalism, communications, media relations, or a related field.

Expert use of standard concepts, practices, and procedures related to use of English grammar, punctuation, and syntax; best practices for letter writing and proposal development, diligent research practices is required. Ability to learn subject-specific terminology for use in developing written materials and knowledge of when and how to use various channels of communication. Ability to thrive in an intellectually challenging, fast-paced, collegial environment. Political savvy, integrity, discretion and pragmatic consensus building skills required; advanced judgment in handling sensitive and confidential information required. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills and a highly professional image with the ability to interact with faculty, staff, donors and volunteers at all levels required. This position requires someone with a strong commitment to and passion for the mission of Salisbury University. Must work well independently, possess effective communications skills and be highly organized. This individual must be able to manage several projects simultaneously, understand the need to re-evaluate priorities on a regular basis, and flourish in a fast-paced atmosphere. A team mentality with a willingness to collaborate is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, or creative writing. Three years of professional experience in a related field. Demonstrated experience in writing for fundraising efforts.

This is a part-time (19 hours per week), contractual position. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
