Web Writer/Editor - Part-time


Salisbury University, a member of the University System of Maryland, is a regionally accredited four-year comprehensive institution offering 58 distinct graduate and undergraduate programs. Located on the historic Eastern Shore, SU's beautiful campus is some 30 miles from the Atlantic beaches and 2.5 hours from Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Web Writer/Editor.

Primary Job Duties: Writes and edits content (digital and print) that is consistent with SU's strategic goals, brand and messaging. Edits text provided by campus contributors to ensure accuracy, stylistic consistency, logical organization and emphasis, and suitability for both the intended audience and the digital platform. Creates and implements strategic timelines for online content. Ensures that web content is tailored to targeted audiences and optimized for Google and other internet search engines. Works in partnership with University editor, marketing team, graphic designers, Web Office staff, web content contributors and digital/print production staff to coordinate website priorities. Provides editorial guidance to campus community members responsible for web content. Networks to establish strong links with staff and faculty to understand communication needs and to develop, edit and maintain their content in a manner that supports the university's strategic initiatives. Develops, writes and edits feature and spotlight stories. Identifies and effectively promotes organization services, projects, events, classes and other newsworthy information through the website. Selects, plans and coordinates the production or editing of digital assets, including images and video that will accompany online content.

Minimum Qualifications: At least 2 years of experience creating and modifying web page content for multiple audiences. Experience with producing content for online and integrated marketing campaigns is required. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with extreme attention to detail; Creative problem-solving skills; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the organization; Ability to maintain on task independently for long-term goals and objectives; Strong time and project management skills and comfort with multiple deadlines. Must have demonstrated experiences in translating big ideas to actionable items.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Communication, Marketing, English, Journalism or similar degree program or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency with content management systems and experience with Google Analytics to assess performance of web pages is desired. Experience in higher education industry is preferred.

This is a part-time (19 hours per week), contractual position offering flexible hours. Starting salary is $16.34 per hour.
