Fixed Asset and Grants Accountant

Job Summary/Basic Function:

JOB SUMMARY

This position will work under the direction of the Controller and will assist in managing the College’s fixed assets. This will entail maintaining the computerized fixed asset records, overseeing the annual physical inventory, recording depreciation in the general ledger and assisting in the year-end close.

MAJOR DUTIES

• Create and monitor a system of controls, procedures, and forms for the recordation of fixed assets.
• Maintain and reconcile all fixed assets accounts to general ledger and maintain computerized records.
• Record asset additions and disposals, review repairs and maintenance account for capitalized items, and run untagged asset report and follow up on exceptions.
• Assist in year-end closing.
• Ensure grants compliance within accepted accounting principles.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

• Excellent verbal/written communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Ability to perform complex numerical calculations, and management reports.
• Effective mathematical, organizational, and analytical skills.
• Strong attention to detail and high level of discretion and confidentiality.
• Ability to work autonomously and handle concurrent multiple priorities.
• Knowledge and experience in PeopleSoft Asset Module, fund accounting, and University System of Georgia or higher education fixed asset accounting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for two years.
