Academic Program Specialist - Political Science/Sociology


Salisbury University, a member of the University System of Maryland, is a regionally accredited four-year comprehensive institution offering 62 distinct graduate and undergraduate programs. Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Academic Program Specialist supporting the Sociology and Political Science departments.

Primary Job Duties: Provides support for the daily operations of the Sociology and Political Science departments as well as assists in the planning, coordination, marketing, and facilitation of the Safe Spaces Program. Oversees daily office operations including department correspondence, email, calendars and telephones; Collects, summarizes, and communicates data and prepares reports; Independently handles procedural and substantive matters and inquiries which do not require technical knowledge; Coordinates class and workshop schedules, programs/events including scheduling, ordering supplies, tracking expenses, submitting invoices and tracking payments, attendee rosters; Assists with preparing and administering budgets; Makes travel arrangements; Maintains databases.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of one year experience in administrative staff work in which program coordination in a directly related field was a primary responsibility. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.

General knowledge of business English, spelling, and grammar. General knowledge of and skill in the use of word processing, database, and spreadsheet software to produce documents and maintain information. Skill in performing basic mathematical computations. Ability to present statistical material in table, chart, or graph form. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple tasks and assignments. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with tact and discretion. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to operate computers and other office equipment. Ability to train, supervise, and evaluate personnel.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with social sciences or humanities concentration. PeopleSoft experience.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, State position with a full benefits package. Salary is expected to start at approximately $35,728 annually, which is approximately $17.13 per hour, although experience will be taken into consideration.
