Maintenance Mechanic


Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Maintenance Mechanic. The primary schedule for this position is 11:00p.m. 7:00a.m.

Primary Job Duties: Conducts scheduled and unscheduled inspections of buildings and equipment. Performs semi-skilled preventative, required routine maintenance and routine and emergency repairs to University property and equipment as well as tasks associated with building construction and remodeling. These include routine and emergency repairs including correcting minor electrical malfunctions, repairing basic plumbing fixtures, pipes and fittings, repairing and replacing light fixtures, repairing doors and locks, changing filters, belts, and hoses. Serves as first responder to building facility service calls of all types including fire alarm, security/locks issues, leaks, power losses, minor plumbing issues, etc. Repairs equipment such as fans, pumps, electrical motors, light fixtures, toilets and sinks. Provides guidance and instruction to maintenance assistants.

Minimum Qualifications: Three years of related work experience. Must possess a valid non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license with 5 or less points for moving violations. Must possess or be able to possess with 6 months, a valid certified pool operator's license (CPO).

Preferred Qualifications: High school diploma/GED

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: General knowledge of a variety of building construction or maintenance or repair practices and techniques used in the trade areas where assigned; of safety practices and procedures related to the assigned trade areas. Working knowledge and skill in the use of tools and equipment of the trade. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to communicate effectively. Ability to make adjustments, repairs and replacements to building fixtures and mechanical equipment to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work at heights up to 35 feet; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools and supplies and/or exert force up to 70lbs; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on machinery and equipment; to work in hazardous or irritating environments, in confined spaces and adverse weather or temperature conditions. Must possess strong analytical, interpersonal and customer service skills.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, State position with a full benefits package. Starting salary is $31,867 annually, which is approximately $15.28 per hour. The primary schedule for this position is 11:00p.m. 7:00a.m. with occasional weekends required. This position is considered essential and will be called upon to provide emergency coverage when necessary.
