Academic Program Specialist - Philosophy/Fulton School


Salisbury University, a member of the University System of Maryland, is a regionally accredited four-year comprehensive institution offering 62 distinct graduate and undergraduate programs. Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Academic Program Specialist supporting the Philosophy department and the Fulton School of Liberal Arts.

Primary Job Duties: Coordinates the daily operations of the Philosophy Department and assists in the development and support of academic programs. Daily operations and administrative support duties in part include: handling inquires, developing and maintaining a system for budgeting, writing contracts, providing administrative support in the development of course schedules, updating website/communications, publicizing and organizing events. Development and support of academic program duties in part include: assists with program assessment, student recruitment and transition into the major/minor. Assists with alumni and public outreach in a comprehensive manner via Public Humanities programs, grants and initiatives for Philosophy. Coordinates similarly integrated Public Humanities activities for the Fulton School of Liberal Arts.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Philosophy or other humanities discipline. 1 year experience in administrative staff work in which program coordination in a directly related field was a primary responsibility. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.

General knowledge of business English, spelling, and grammar. General knowledge of and skill in the use of word processing, database, and spreadsheet software to produce documents and maintain information. Skill in performing basic mathematical computations. Ability to present statistical material in table, chart, or graph form. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple tasks and assignments. Ability to problem-solve, follow-through, and manage time appropriately. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with tact and discretion. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to operate computers and other office equipment. Ability to train, supervise, and evaluate personnel. Ability to engender a welcoming and hospitable environment on campus.

Preferred Qualifications: 3 years' experience in administrative staff work in which program coordination in a directly related field was a primary responsibility. PeopleSoft knowledge preferred.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, contractual (Contingent II) position with a comprehensive benefits package including medical, prescription, dental, tuition remission, paid leave, and more. Salary is expected to start at approximately $35,728 annually, which is approximately $17.13 per hour, although experience will be taken into consideration. This position requires occasional evening and weekend hours.
