Diversity & Inclusion Specialist


Salisbury University, a member of the University System of Maryland, is a regionally accredited four-year comprehensive institution offering 62 distinct graduate and undergraduate programs. Located on the historic Eastern Shore, SU's beautiful campus is some 30 miles from the Atlantic beaches and 2.5 hours from Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Diversity and Inclusion Specialist.

Primary Job Duties: This position will plan, organize, and coordinate the delivery of programs and initiatives across campus to conceptualize, define, cultivate, and assess diversity and inclusion. Providing support to the Office of Institutional Equity, this position serves as a point-of-contact for students, faculty, and staff; dealing with issues of diversity and inclusion; implementing the diversity goals of the strategic plan; providing training; and facilitating professional development initiatives. This position will also support the Complaint Resolution process to include reviews and investigations, on an as needed basis, of harassment and discrimination complaints, including Title IX, and recommends solutions in accordance with institutional policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Student Affairs, Higher Education, Public Administration, Law, Conflict Analysis and Resolution, Criminology, Social Work, Psychology or a related field and a minimum of three to five years full-time related experience. Related professional experience must include diversity and inclusion, compliance, training, and conflict resolution work. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and success working with diverse constituencies, both domestic and international is required.

Must be detail oriented and have excellent interpersonal, customer service, organization and planning, prioritization, problem solving, follow through, time management, and oral and written communication skills. Also, must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work well under pressure, independently, and in a team-oriented environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.

Good judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information; working knowledge of principles and practices in the areas of conflict resolution, problem solving techniques, interviewing, data collection, and investigation; demonstrated analytical skills and the ability to assess and negotiate complex, highly sensitive situations; exceptional critical thinking skills; skill in writing concise, logical, analytical reports to convey complex issues; ability to read and interpret complex legal documents; ability to establish and maintain professional and productive working relationships; working knowledge of current federal and state civil rights, affirmative action, equal employment opportunity, and nondiscrimination laws; experience developing and delivering outreach materials, programs, and/or presentations.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of compliance regulations including anti-discrimination regulations and Title IX, due process protections as they apply to Student Conduct proceedings, the Clery Act, SaVE, VAWA and FERPA; experience in higher education and/or a campus setting (may include internships and graduate assistantship, if relevant); experience in student conduct or an office of civil rights/equal opportunity; experience as a trainer/educator, preferably in the area of diversity or discrimination; and experience developing and conducting needs assessments and developing appropriate response systems. Experience conducting investigations in a University setting; and understanding or experience investigating cases of interpersonal violence desired.

This is a full-time, exempt, contractual (Contingent II) position with a comprehensive benefits package including medical, prescription, dental, tuition remission, paid leave, and more. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
