Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide supervision of the University Police Department during assigned shift, to include issuing and enforcing directives and work orders, authorizing changes to assignments and normal operating procedures and overtime.

Develops, coordinates, and implement goals, objectives, policies and procedures for the department and work units assigned; monitors budgetary expenses and assists in preparation of the department budget.

Commands major law enforcement operations of major investigations, emergency management situations and large university special events; coordinates law enforcement activities of other departments and law enforcement agencies and first responders.

Manages the department internal affairs function and makes disciplinary action recommendations to the Chief of Police.

Conduct regular meetings with subordinate officers to address questions and concerns, review assignments, and provide appearance inspections.

Serves as the departments intermediary for internal complaints and discrepancies among staff members, and as needed, submit forward through the chain-of-command.

Perform periodic campus patrols to determine the effectiveness of campus police staff and adjust staffing levels as needed.

Prepare and submit evaluation reports that reflect subordinate staff performance and summarize activities.

Represents the police department at meetings, conferences, seminars, and other public functions, as required; acts, as directed, as media spokesperson for the police department.

Designs and implements operational, technical and administrative methods of University community policing, crime prevention, law enforcement, and related functions, including but not limited to, investigations, patrol, traffic control, and safety.

Reviews and directs the department's fiscal, equipment and human resources activities and services; develops reviews and supervises staff , development and training; evaluates performance of assigned staff.

Writes, edits or coordinates the preparation of correspondence, reports, or other printed material; research content items for precedents, correctness of presentation and applicability.

Serves as alternate property and evidence custodian.

Assumes command of the police department in the absence of supervisory command staff.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
A High School Diploma and experience equivalent to five (5) years of related work. CPR and First Aid certificates are preferred. Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining APOSTC certification. An offer of employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment background check, psychological test, and drug test.
