Sch of Public Affairs Faculty Associate EMHS Pool

The School of Public Affairs in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions is seeking part-time, non-tenure track Faculty Associates to teach in our Emergency Management baccalaureate and graduate programs. The successful candidate(s) will teach in-person or online courses, prepare course materials, evaluate student work, and assist students. Faculty Associate positions are one semester, non-benefits-eligible, fixed-term appointments with no tenure implications, not to exceed .4FTE. The number of courses is contingent upon needs, funding and sufficient enrollment. Salary is based upon qualifications and assigned teaching load.

This recruitment establishes a potential part-time hiring pool for temporary and semester appointments. Applicants are considered for the current fiscal year only. Applicants who were not hired are welcome to reapply.

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in public administration, public policy, emergency management or related field is required for teaching undergraduate level courses
  • A graduate degree in public administration, public policy, emergency management or related field is required for teaching graduate-level courses
  • Full-time relevant clinical/professional experience
  • Expertise in one or more of the following content areas:
  • Emergency Management, including Incident Management, Mitigation, Preparedness, Recovery
  • Homeland Security, including homeland defense, terrorism and Counterterrorism
  • Community Resilience and Sustainability
  • Geospatial Technology
  • Cybersecurity
  • Information Technology related to Emergency Management or Homeland Security
  • Public Safety
  • Public Health related to Emergency Management
  • Logistics or Operations Management

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior higher education teaching experience is preferred
  • Experience facilitating student led classroom discussions
  • Evidence of working with a diverse student population
  • Evidence of effective collaboration skills
  • Experience with technology/course management systems; Prior experience with Canvas Online Instructional Platform is especially valuable
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
