Associate Director of Development

Summary/Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Des Moines University seeks an Associate Director of Development who will develop programs and strategies to identify, cultivate, track and solicit alumni, parents and friends of Des Moines University, its colleges, and other major units. While traveling nationally, the Associate Director of Development will develop donor centered relationships that will produce funding for Des Moines University.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Research, identify, qualify and evaluate potential major gift contributors (businesses, corporations, alumni, foundations, DMU friends) through examination of past records, individual and corporate contacts, and knowledge of communities.
  • Cultivate and solicit prospective donors in concert with DMU's internal and volunteer leadership through personal, one-on-one visitations and other means.
  • Develop and carry out all necessary strategies to solicit funds (both major and deferred) and maintain ongoing relationships with donors.
  • Assist Chief Development Officer, the President, and Deans as appropriate in their development responsibilities.
  • Travel extensively in order to meet with donors and friends of Des Moines University.
  • Help University leadership improve their major gifts by utilizing personal solicitations, donor cultivation, event planning, and recognition events.
  • Assist President, Chief Development Officer, Deans, and other development staff in communicating needs of the University to donors and prospective donors.
  • Work with the Development and Alumni Relations team on identification, direction, and explanation of development priorities.
  • Assist, as necessary, with other development activities, such as; annual fund, planned giving, events and administration of the development program.
  • Participate in and successfully complete all University required training including, but not limited to discrimination/harassment and code of conduct.
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.


Qualifications/Education and/or Experience:

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years related experience (i.e. sales, marketing, fund raising, or comparable experience) required.
  • Raisers Edge knowledge preferred.
  • Experience in a university or major college setting or the fundraising arena is preferred.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS
  • Good PC knowledge and skills; knowledge of computer-related office tools and database management.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, listening and time management skills.
  • Adaptability and able to work in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated initiative.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusivity.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to travel local & nationally 50 percent of time as required.
