Assistant Professor of Education

Position Title: Assistant Professor of Education

School: School of Social and Behavioral Sciences; Education Department

Job Summary: The Marist College Education Department seeks candidates for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Education to begin in fall 2019.

Minimum Qualifications: Requirements for the position include an earned doctorate in education or a related field from an accredited university. In particular, we seek faculty with expertise in one or more of these areas: teaching methods in one of the key secondary content areas; special education methods for grades 7-12; and expertise in educational technology for the P-12 classroom. The successful candidate will have teacher certification, a minimum of three years of teaching in P-12 settings, and experience with collaborative partnerships in diverse educational settings. Teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels is preferred. The candidate should have an ability to integrate technology into instruction, and a commitment to alternative methods of program delivery including but not limited to online learning. Familiarity with accreditation processes will be helpful.

Essential Functions: Primary responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate instruction in P - 12 education methods. Supervision of student teaching may be assigned. The expected course load for our faculty is 21 credits; typically distributed as a 3:4 course load. Applicants should have an active research agenda that leads to high-quality peer reviewed publications and presentations.

About the Department &

School: The Education Department is a member of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences along with departments for psychology, criminal justice, and social work. The Education Department offers a variety of teacher preparation programs including: (1) elementary education, grades 1-6, with dual certification for students with disabilities, (2) a birth through second grade teacher certification, and (3) 7 th - 12 th grade certification in seven content areas (English, math, social studies, biology, chemistry, Spanish and French) also with dual certification for students with disabilities. The department offers a 5-year program to both the elementary/students with disabilities candidates as well as the 7 th -12 th grade teacher candidates for the completion of a master's degree.
