The University of California, San Diego, Department of Pediatrics is seeking a PhD scientist with a background in bioinformatics and microbiome research to support research activities in the laboratory of Dr. Jack Gilbert (Pediatrics and SIO). The Project Scientist will be expected to conduct independent research in collaboration with Dr. Gilbert, as well as working on existing and new research programs led by Dr. Gilbert.

The Project Scientist will be responsible for working on grant applications, coordinating research programs in the lab, mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, and other junior personnel, in addition to taking part in departmental meetings, research travel, messaging and communication associated with lab activities, delivering upon publications, funding reports to sponsors, and presentations at local, national and international conferences. Candidates must be willing to explore diverse research opportunities, and be able to provide references to back their commitment to supporting and enabling a diverse and safe laboratory environment for all personnel.

Candidates must have a PhD in the general area of microbiome science with at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience. Candidates must be able to provide evidence of collaborative research,

A demonstrated ability to obtain funding (including fellowships, travel awards, and funding proposals) is preferred.

Appointment will be at Assistant or Associate Project Scientist level based on background and years of experience. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.
