Professor of Practice in Residential Construction

The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) and the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment (SSEBE) Del E. Web School of Construction (DEWSC) seeks applicants for a Professor of Practice in residential construction, beginning in the Fall 2019 semester. The position is aimed at advancing the construction management program, increasing our reputation in the area of residential construction, and helping the program seek out industry endowments to create a full-time position.

Faculty members are expected to engage in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in construction, mentoring of students, and creating and maintaining relationships with the residential construction industry. Other responsibilities include holding office hours, participating in course and program assessment, and working with student organizations and competition teams. The hire will also be responsible for overseeing the residential construction courses taught by faculty associates (adjunct professors).

This position is partially funded by a National Housing Endowment 2018 Homebuilding Education Leadership Program (HELP) grant. This is a one year appointment, with the possibility of subsequent one-year appointments dependent on available funding. Additional funding is dependent on the successful candidate assisting the program chair in raising funds from the residential construction industry.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

  • MS in construction management, construction engineering, or a related discipline by start of appointment.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong ties with the residential construction industry in Arizona.

  • Twenty years of residential construction industry management experience.

  • Extensive leadership experience in the residential construction industry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in construction management, construction engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Teaching experience in an undergraduate construction management or engineering program.

  • Twenty-five years of construction industry field management experience.

  • PE license, CPC, or other professional certification.

  • Demonstrated record of securing external development funding for academic programs.
