The College of Health Solutions at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking a full-time, 9-month, faculty member at the rank of associate professor in the area of integrated behavioral health, population health, or multi-morbidity and health outcomes. The position offered may be tenured, or tenure-track with a shortened tenure clock. Tenure may be offered based on qualifications and requires approval through ASU’s expedited tenure review process.  The candidate will have the ability to work closely with faculty from psychology, biomedical informatics, the science of health care delivery, nutrition, exercise science, health promotion, health coaching, epidemiology,  social work, and medicine who conduct research in the areas of health behavior change, community-based interventions, health disparities, multiple chronic disease, women’s health and exercise physiology.  As part of a University-wide initiative, there is potential for collaboration with units across the University to address student mental health and wellbeing. Finally,  there are opportunities for collaborations with ASU investigators from diverse fields including: Global Health, the Biodesign Institute,  the Center for Bioelectronics and Biosensors (Ira A Fulton Schools of Engineering), Anthropology (School of Human Evolution & Social Change), Nursing (College of Nursing & Health innovation), Native American Studies, Latino Health, Sustainability (Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability), and Aging (Center for Healthy Outcomes in Aging). 

 

Responsibilities for this position include research, teaching and service. Research responsibilities include sustaining an active line of research and providing leadership and management to the successful research enterprise within the integrated behavioral health program. Teaching responsibilities include teaching graduate courses in Integrated Behavioral Health and mentoring graduate students, and junior and clinical faculty related to research.  Service requirements include providing service to the program, College and University as well as to the community and profession. As part of the service requirement, the successful candidate will be asked to help expand the IBH annual Integrated Health Care Conference into a College and ASU- wide, state and regional Health and Behavior conference. The ideal candidate will present evidence of a successful research trajectory, including a strong publication record and evidence of grantsmanship consistent with rank, and a strong commitment to high quality teaching and student mentoring. 

 

Integrated Behavioral Health Program

The Integrated Behavioral Health Program has been in operation since 2009. We offer the following programs and concentrations:

The Doctor of Behavioral Health (DBH) degree prepares graduates to deliver integrated behavioral care treatment programs in primary care and other medical settings. Students can choose one of two concentrations:

The Clinical Concentration prepares licensed master’s level clinicians such as social workers, counselors, nurses and physician assistants to both provide integrated behavioral health care and design and manage programs.

The Management Concentration prepares master’s degree professionals to design, deliver and evaluate integrated behavioral health programs.

The Master of Integrated Health Care (MIHC) is designed to meet the growing market demand for professionals with the ability to manage integrated health care programs. Integrated health care programs have emerged as a key component of the Patient-Centered Primary Care Medical Home (PCPCMH) and Accountable Care Organization (ACO) models of primary care. The MIHC curriculum prepares the graduate to design, implement, and evaluate integrated health programs. The curriculum includes the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Open School online courses allowing students to earn their Basic Certificate in Quality and Safety and incorporates learning in the Triple Aim for populations, quality cost and value, leadership, and improvement capability as part of the MIHC degree.

The Integrated Behavioral Health Program operates a robust research program focused on integrated primary care, behavior in health, chronic disease, costs of care and informatics.

College of Health Solutions

The College of Health Solutions (CHS) is dedicated to translating scientific advances into practical interventions to improve health outcomes through education, research and service. We equip students with the knowledge and skills to influence healthier lifestyle choices; develop creative interventions to improve the health of people and populations; analyze and translate large amounts of health data into solutions; and maximize the technology, science, business and application of diagnostics. CHS research programs encompass basic/discovery science, clinical trials, intervention science and measurement of health outcomes. In all cases, CHS faculty use interdisciplinary approaches to address the complex systems that underpin health problems. The college is highly collaborative, transparent and team-oriented with an innovative organizational structure that includes translational teams, affinity networks, and academic programs to improve the health of people and communities.

The current training programs include behavioral health, biomedical diagnostics, biomedical informatics, executive and continuing education, exercise science, health promotion, health sciences, kinesiology, medical studies, nutrition, population health, the science of health care delivery, and speech and hearing science. Our programs are offered at ASU’s Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, West and Lake Havasu campuses, as well as on Mayo Clinic’s Scottsdale campus.

• Doctorate or terminal degree (PhD, ScD, MD/DO, DBH, DSW, or DrPH) in integrated behavioral health or related fields such as healthcare, behavioral health, integrated health, health psychology, health behavior change, clinical psychology or social work
• Experience with writing and securing grants: evidence of ability to obtain extramural funding commensurate with rank
• Experience conducting and publishing research:  evidence of a peer reviewed, publication history commensurate with rank 
• Experience teaching courses at the university level:  evidence of successful university teaching commensurate with rank
• Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse group of colleagues, students, and staff

 

• Potential to secure Arizona licensure in a mental health or medical discipline
• Experience teaching graduate level courses and mentoring graduate students in research and publishing
• Experience in developing and maintaining community partnerships and inter-professional collaborations
• Experience in dissemination and implementation research
• Experience and focus on social and health care disparities
• Experience and focus on population health and multiple chronic disease
• Experience and interest in women’s health
