The College of Health Solutions (CHS) at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty member at the rank of assistant or associate professor in the area of Population Health.  The associate rank may be tenured, or tenure-track with a shortened tenure clock. Tenure may be offered based on qualifications and requires approval through ASU’s expedited tenure review process.  Within the broad area of population health, we particularly encourage applications from candidates who have research expertise in one or more of the following areas  (a) translational science intended to move health-related research discoveries into improvements in health care and/or public health practice, (b) social determinants of health and health outcomes, (c) complex networks and systems that can be optimized to improve health outcomes, (d) research that is oriented toward interdisciplinary and/or transdisciplinary science.   

 

We welcome applications from candidates whose scholarship complements the existing expertise in population health and related fields within the College of Health Solutions (https://chs.asu.edu/faculty-research). In addition, we encourage research collaborations with ASU investigators from diverse fields, as well as with non-ASU community partners. 

 

Responsibilities for this position include developing a successful research program, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (ASU operates on a semester system and a teaching load of 1:1 is expected in years 1 and 2 and 2:2 thereafter), mentoring students in research, and providing internal service to the college and university as well as external service to the community and/or the candidate’s scholarly discipline(s). The ideal candidate will present evidence of a successful research trajectory consistent with rank. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a strong commitment to high quality teaching and student mentoring. 

 

Population Health Program

From global health problem-solving to creating healthy outcomes in communities and neighborhoods, our bachelor’s degrees and certificates educate students in health education, health promotion, health sciences and public health. Our programs prepare health professionals to improve health outcomes for all types of populations, from small community-based groups to large numbers that can be impacted by public health initiatives. Students learn core concepts like health behavior, statistics and health data analysis, environmental health, epidemiology, health administration and policy and are prepared for careers impacting the health of entire groups in meaningful ways.

 

College of Health Solutions

The College of Health Solutions (CHS) is dedicated to translating scientific advances into practical interventions to improve health outcomes through education, research and service. We equip students with the knowledge and skills to influence healthier lifestyle choices; develop creative interventions to improve the health of people and populations; analyze and translate large amounts of health data into solutions; and maximize the technology, science, business and application of diagnostics. CHS research programs encompass basic/discovery science, clinical trials, intervention science and measurement of health outcomes. In all cases, CHS faculty use interdisciplinary approaches to address the complex systems that underpin health problems. The college is highly collaborative, transparent and team-oriented with an innovative organizational structure that includes translational teams, affinity networks, and academic programs to improve the health of people and communities.

 

The current training programs include behavioral health, biomedical diagnostics, biomedical informatics, executive and continuing education, exercise science, health promotion, health sciences, kinesiology, medical studies, nutrition, population health, the science of health care delivery, and speech and hearing science. Our programs are offered at ASU’s Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, West and Lake Havasu campuses, as well as on Mayo Clinic’s Scottsdale campus.

Ph.D or M.D. degree in a field relevant to population health (e.g., public health, health informatics, information science, anthropology, sociology, public policy, epidemiology, community health, health economics, health policy, health management, etc.).

Experience in writing and securing grants: For candidates at the associate level, evidence of grant submissions and grant awards commensurate with rank; for candidates at the assistant level, a program of research with strong potential for extramural grant awards.

Experience conducting and publishing research: For candidates at the associate level, evidence of published peer reviewed research products commensurate with rank; for candidates at the assistant level, a program of research with strong potential for publication in top peer-reviewed venues in the candidate’s primary discipline(s).

Experience teaching courses at the college level: For candidates at the associate level, evidence of successful university teaching in-person and/or online commensurate with rank; for candidates at the assistant level, evidence of pedagogical activities (teaching university courses, teaching assistantships, guest lectures, workshops, etc.) and/or pedagogical training at the university level.

 

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with colleagues
• Evidence of participation in translational, trans-disciplinary, and team science initiatives relevant to CHS research domains
• Experience mentoring graduate students in research and publishing
• Demonstrated success in promoting student retention and/or graduation
• Evidence of impact of research on the health of population(s)
