Assistant Director of Public Relations


Salisbury University, a member of the University System of Maryland, is a regionally accredited four-year comprehensive institution offering 62 distinct graduate and undergraduate programs. Located on the historic Eastern Shore, SU's beautiful campus is some 30 miles from the Atlantic beaches and 2.5 hours from Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Director of Public Relations.

Primary Job Duties: The Assistant Director of Public Relations (PR) will assist the Public Relations Director and the Associate Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing in advancing the University's reputation strategically through various communication channels, including traditional and digital media, and to various internal and external audiences at the local, state, and national levels. Develop and disseminate news and information about the University, helping foster maximum positive coverage and limiting negative coverage to the extent possible. Support the Public Relations Office's significant role in crisis and emergency communications.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Communications or related field and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience.

Must be detail oriented and have excellent interpersonal, customer service, organization and planning, prioritization, problem solving, follow through, time management, and oral and written communication skills. Also, must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work well under pressure, independently, and in a team-oriented environment. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required. Must demonstrate leadership by example and be able to work under sometimes challenging and unanticipated deadlines. Must be able to work beyond the standard 8 a.m. 5 p.m. workday when necessary. Must have knowledge of Associated Press Style.

Preferred Qualifications: Media or public relations experience.

This is a full-time, exempt State position with a full benefits package. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
