Lecturer in Tourism Management

The Hainan University-Arizona State University Joint International Tourism College (HAITC) is seeking one full-time, 9 month lecturer in tourism development and management. (Job #12743) This position will be permanently based in Haikou, Hainan, China.

Hainan University (HNU) is a comprehensive provincial university in Haikou, Hainan. It is one of the “211 Project” key universities. HAITC is an innovative joint college and the first domestic Sino-foreign cooperative tourism institution approve by China’s Ministry of Education. Currently offering three dual degree programs, the college began in Fall 2017 and now hosts over 500 students. Courses are taught by both HNU and ASU faculty.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to teach up to four courses per semester at the undergraduate level, deliver excellent in-class instruction at the undergraduate level and participate in service activities for the college, profession and community. The appointment will begin with a one week orientation at ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus toward the end of August 2019.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned master’s degree in tourism management, hospitality, recreation, leisure studies, geography, business, or a closely related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment
  • Undergraduate teaching experience
  • Knowledge of the tourism and hospitality industry
  • Ability to work with culturally-diverse populations

Desired Qualifications

  • Doctorate in a closely aligned field
  • Preference will also be given to applicants with: 1) experience teaching undergraduate tourism related classes; 2) experience working in the tourism industry; 3) professional engagement with students in and out of the classroom; 4) and expertise in one or more specialties such as introduction to tourism, sustainable tourism, tourism marketing and management, or leadership and professional development
