Open Rank (Tenure-Track) Professor: Nursing

The Imperial Valley campus of San Diego State University is seeking applicants for an open rank tenure-track position in Nursing at the assistant, associate, or professor level. The position is a joint appointment to the San Diego State University-Imperial Valley and the School of Nursing on the San Diego campus. The primary appointment is to the undergraduate program at the Imperial Valley campus in Calexico. The Imperial Valley campus is located in Calexico, within seven blocks of the United States-Mexico border across from Mexicali, Baja California, and 120 miles east of San Diego, California.

Responsibilities

The position is an academic year, full-time tenure track position. The faculty candidate will teach at the undergraduate level in the RN-BSN program and may also teach courses in the master's program in nursing leadership. Courses will focus on theory and clinical nursing informed by evidenced based practice, as well as other assigned courses based upon background and experience.

Candidates should possess a strong research agenda and capability, or the potential for these, as demonstrated by an appropriate history of professional growth activity. This will include publication in refereed journals, professional conference participation, grant activity, as well as other evidence of an active research program.

Other responsibilities include participation in department and university committees, contributions to student success, participation in program review and accreditation reporting, and community and professional service.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must hold an earned doctorate in nursing or related field from a regionally accredited institution. Master's degree in nursing required if doctorate is not in nursing. Sufficient evidence of academic experience, teaching excellence, scholarship (e.g. research, grant writing, refereed publications/presentations) and professional service, to warrant appointment at the rank of professor or associate professor. Candidate must be eligible for California licensure and Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) approval at time of appointment in one or more of the following specialties including Psych/Mental Health, Public Health, Community Health, Pediatrics, Women's Health, Medical Surgical Nursing and/or Geriatrics Nursing. Ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse campus community. Ability to contribute to a positive work environment with colleagues, staff, students and others.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in nursing. In particular, someone who has research and teaching experience in medical surgical techniques, advanced physical assessment, and/or Latina/o border healthcare issues would be especially welcome. Professional/academic service in program and/or committee leadership. Experience in teaching students from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural and academic backgrounds.

Supplemental Information

All nursing faculty must meet healthcare agency requirements for clinical instruction of students as a consideration of employment. This will include criminal background checks, drug screening and compliance with the current health and safety requirements of each clinical site.
