Position Title: Assistant Professor of English

School: English Department, School of Liberal Arts

Job Summary: The Department of English in the School of Liberal Arts at Marist College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English in Rhetoric and Composition, to begin in August 2019.

Candidates should be able to teach a variety of undergraduate writing courses at all levels, including Writing for College; Grammar, Style, and Editing; Writing as a Discipline; as well as upper-level writing workshops in the candidate's area of expertise. We are particularly interested in candidates who can complement our current faculty research areas by developing and offering courses in Professional Writing, Technical Writing, and related topics. Depending on teaching and research interests, candidates may be able to work with one of many interdisciplinary programs on campus such as African Diaspora Studies, American Studies, Global Studies, Latin American & Caribbean Studies, or Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Successful candidates will be able to teach First Year Seminars, and candidates who have experience or interest in teaching with service learning or community based writing pedagogy are particularly welcome. Candidates must demonstrate strong or potential accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing Marist's commitment to achieving academic excellence and diversity.

Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Composition/Rhetoric is required. Teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness are required.

Essential Functions: The teaching load will be 4-3, but faculty who achieve and maintain an outstanding record of scholarship may be eligible for a 3-3 teaching load.

About the Department: The English Department at Marist College includes 17 faculty and offers a BA in English with concentrations in literature, writing, and theatre. The department also offers popular minors in creative writing, professional writing, and theatre. The English Department is housed in the School of Liberal Arts, which includes departments in history, modern languages, philosophy & religious studies, and political science.
