Writing Center Director/Lecturer of English

Position Title: Writing Center Director/Lecturer of English

School: English Department; School of Liberal Arts

Job Summary: The Department of English in the School of Liberal Arts at Marist College invites applications for the Director of the Writing Center and Lecturer of English/ Rhetoric and Composition, to begin in August 2019. In addition to Writing Center administrative responsibilities, the successful candidate will also teach a variety of writing courses including: Writing for College; Grammar, Style, and Editing; Writing as a Discipline; and courses in the candidate's area of specialization. This position comes with a course reassignment for Writing Center duties, so candidates can expect to teach a 3-2 load.

Writing Center Director duties will include:
  • Hiring, training, and supervising Writing Center Staff and daily oversight of the Writing Center
  • Assessing Writing Center services and programs
  • Developing Writing Center workshops in conjunction with Writing Center staff
  • Publicizing the Writing Center across campus
  • Working with the English Department and a broad array of campus constituencies to foster ongoing conversations about writing on campus
  • Writing semester-end reports

Minimum Qualifications: M.A. in English

Writing Center tutoring and administrative experience.

Essential Functions: Serve as Director of the Writing Center and teach courses in the English Department.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition or related field. Teaching Experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness are required.

About theDepartment, Program, or School: The English Department at Marist College includes 17 faculty and offers a BA in English with concentrations in literature, writing, and theatre. The department also offers popular minors in creative writing, professional writing, and theatre. The English Department is housed in the School of Liberal Arts, which includes departments in history, modern languages, philosophy & religious studies, and political science.
