Job Summary: Defense Position Coach will participate in the preparation, coordination, practice & game plan preparation, and execution of practice plans. The position is responsible for the identification, research of, and communication with prospective student athletes. The assistant coach will also assist in the academic, personal, and career mentoring of student-athletes.
Minimum Qualifications: 1 - 3 years' experience at the NCAA Div. I, II or NFL football program. Bachelors' degree required, master's degree preferred. Experience required in recruiting qualified athletes.
Essential Functions: Assist the Head Coach in developing the defensive game strategy and designing effective and efficient training and practices for both the team and individual student athletes by:
- Formulating effective game plans for competition
- Conducting individual and small group training sessions
- Conducting comprehensive film review from practices and games
- Preparing daily team practice plans
Recruit student athletes to Marist College by:
- Researching, evaluating and recruiting high school prospective prospects.
- Preparing and coordinating the recruiting calendar in accordance with the NCAA, Pioneer League (Football only), and institutional regulations.
- Evaluating prospective student athletes by traveling to high school games, and other relevant recruiting opportunities during permissible recruiting periods.
- Conducting appropriate communication with coaches, prospective student athletes, and parents.
- Coordinating and executing official and unofficial visits to campus for prospective student athletes and their families.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree and previous experience in college athletics, strongly preferred

About the Department: A conference leader in athletic and academic success, the Marist College Department of Athletics sponsors 23 Division I sports that compete in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the Pioneer Football League (PFL - Football Championship Subdivision). In its history, Marist is the MAAC all-time leader in conference championships and overall Commissioner's Cups, an award that celebrates overall excellence and athletic achievement. The Red Foxes have led the conference in MAAC Academic Honor Roll for 17 straight seasons.
The athletics department is engaged in an athletic/academic partnership to produce varsity athletics competitions on ESPN platforms using students to facilitate these broadcasts. This partnership has yielded expanded coverage for numerous teams, and provided students the tools needed to position themselves for a career in media production upon graduation.
