Assistant Director, International Student Services

Position Title: Assistant Director, International Student Services

Department: Student Academic Affairs/Center for Multicultural Affairs

Job Summary: The Assistant Director's position counsels and advises international students on academic, personal, financial and career development matters. In addition, the position plans and coordinates academic and cultural initiatives to help international students acclimate to the college and the United States.

The Assistant Director is responsible for planning, coordinating, and administering the orientation program for international undergraduate, visiting and graduate students including the screening, training, hiring and supervising of the international orientation leaders. This position coordinates the campus wide committee involved with orientations.

This position also manages the international visiting students program, and communicates with representatives from home institutions and acts as Alternative Responsible Officer for Homeland Security in administration of exchange visitor program students on J-1 visas. This position also assists with other visa applications, including the issuance of I-20's for our F-1 student visa student population, in accordance with federal regulation and institutional policy.

The Assistant Director also screens international student applications, reviews documentation and makes recommendations as needed. Also coordination with the Director of the Writing Program and the Academic Learning Center on meeting the language needs of international students falls under the responsibility of this position.

This position also researches, develops and presents developmental and diversity workshops to sponsored program students, student groups, and other courses which assist in building and maintaining a campus wide environment that is inclusive, pluralistic and diverse.

Minimum Qualifications: 3-5 years applicable work experience; Master's Degree in a Social Services related area

About the Department: The Associate Dean of Student Academic Affairs oversees a multitude of academic support areas of the College. The Center for Multicultural Affairs is one such unit, and this position works closely with professionals across campus, as well as with the international student professional staff housed in the Registrar's Office, under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Student Academic Affairs.
