Job Description:

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The supervising dentist is housed within the Dental Hygiene Center on main campus. General responsibilities are to evaluate clinical procedures and possible didactic instruction of dental hygiene students.

WORK PERFORMED

  • Evaluate medical histories and request medical consultations
  • As indicated by a patient's medical or dental history, prescription of medications such as antibiotics for premedication and antimicrobials for dental hygiene therapy
  • Provide oral cancer screening exams for patient volunteers
  • Provide written prescriptions for patient radiographs, pit and fissure sealants, and dispensing of chemotherapeutic agents
  • Interpretation of dental radiographs
  • Instruction, administration and instruction of local anesthesia
  • Instruction, administration and monitoring of nitrous oxide
  • Periodontal classification for patient volunteers
  • Dental hygiene faculty, student and patient consultations
  • Remains in the Dental Hygiene Center for duration of all clinical sessions
  • Employs a variety of teaching methods in order to meet the varied learning styles of students
  • Didactic course instruction
  • Attend Advisory Board and Curriculum Planning meetings
  • Assist in dental hygiene accreditation process
  • Supports the college and Dental Hygiene Program mission and initiatives

Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Experience and knowledge of dental hygiene accreditation procedures for dental hygiene programs
  • Graduation from an accredited dental school with a degree in dentistry
  • Must have a minimum of three years in clinical practice
  • Knowledge of current technologies for dental hygiene practice, dental hygiene education, clinical instruction, and general dentistry
  • Current license to practice dentistry in the state of Maryland
  • Current CPR certification
  • Teaching methodology background
  • Eligible to be a member in good standing of the ADA, MDA, and local component dental societies.
  • Current with Continuing Education credits in accordance with the requirements of the Maryland Dental Association and Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners
  • Current knowledge of OSHA & HIPAA guidelines

 

Additional Information:

 

Hours Per Week: approximately 25
Work Schedule: Monday - Wednesday, 8am - 5pm; position runs from April to mid/end-May
Compensation: Negotiable; starting salary of $48 per hour and commensurate with experience
Grade: hourly/temporary
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
