Arizona State University’s School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies invites applications for a Lecturer position, as a historian of Asia, with an anticipated start date of August 2019. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible appointment made on an academic year basis (Aug 16 – May 15). Subsequent annual renewal is possible contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university.

The lecturer will offer fall and spring courses to support both the history and Asia Studies majors as well as a variety of other Asia-focused programs at the university.  Candidates should be prepared to teach a broad Asia-wide undergraduate survey course as well as a variety of more country- or theme-specific courses on Asian topics. Some online teaching will be required. Specialists in East, Southeast, and South Asia are invited to apply. 

Required qualifications:
Candidates must have completed a PhD in a field of modern Asian history by the time appointment begins.

Desired qualifications:
Undergraduate teaching experience in a field of Asian history.
Experience in and/or openness to online teaching.
Complementary teaching strengths in related/comparative fields.
Demonstrated success meeting the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities.
