Applications are now being accepted for the position of Assistant Professor, Biology at San Diego Miramar College beginning Fall 2019. Located in the Mira Mesa/Scripps Ranch area of San Diego, Miramar College is one of three colleges in the San Diego Community College District. The assignments may also include day, evening, Saturday, and/or off-campus responsibilities.

Major Responsibilities:
The Assistant Professor of Biology reports to the Miramar College Dean of the School of Mathematics, Biological, Exercise, and Physical Sciences. The Assistant Professor is expected to perform the following duties: Teach introductory, non-major, and major, lecture and lab courses in biology. Participate in biology department meetings and committees. Assist with curriculum revision and course/program assessments. Maintain office hours for student advisement. Participate in various college and/or district committees which promote shared governance. Fulfill the responsibilities of a community college instructor in accordance with district guidelines.

Qualifications:
Masters in any biological science OR Bachelors in any biological science ANDMasters in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science OR the equivalent.

Desired Qualifications:
Relevant upper division and/or graduate credit coursework in the biological sciences with a broad biology background. Demonstrated experience and success in planning, preparing, and teaching general and organismal biology courses appropriate for the community college environment. Demonstrated currency in the field through professional development activities. Demonstrated knowledge or have an active role in writing, developing, and implementing new curriculum, coursework materials and laboratories using current technologies. Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with students, colleagues, administrators, and other staff. Demonstrated abilities to incorporate innovative practices and methodologies in teaching and curriculum development. Demonstrated experience with participatory governance, committee, and/or department work in an academic setting including but not limited to knowledge and experience with Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) and Program Review processes. Demonstrated ability to communicate and teach effectively both orally and in writing.

Pay Information:
Class 1, Step A Class 6, Step C ($5,754.92 $7,754.42) per month based on the current AFT COLLEGE Faculty Tenured-Tenured Track Monthly Salary Schedule.

Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code 87815, any required adjustment will be made with-in the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.
