Lecturer- Warren College Writing Program 2019-2020

Lecturer- Warren College Writing Program 2019-2020

University of California, San Diego

Part time non-tenure track lectureships with the Warren College Writing Program at UC San Diego will be available for the 2019-20 academic year (if needed, applicants may be considered for the current 2018-19 academic year) . Appointments vary from one to three quarters.

Each year, approximately 300-400 students will enroll in Earl Warren College as transfer students from community colleges and other institutions. As one of six undergraduate colleges on the UC San Diego campus, Warren College requires all transfer students to complete one upper-division writing course as part of their general education requirements.

WCWP 100 is an upper-division workshop course that has been specially designed for and is required of all transfer students who enter Warren College. The course focuses on teaching students critical thinking, reading and writing knowledge and strategies for argumentation and research, with particular attention to analyzing and constructing academic arguments. Instructors design their own syllabi, with approval from the Warren College writing director. Course topics and themes are usually drawn from and inspired by the mission of Earl Warren College. The College is dedicated to cultivating ethically responsible citizen scholars who will flourish during their careers at UC San Diego and beyond.

Our ideal candidate will have a Ph.D., M.F.A. or other terminal degree in Rhetoric and Composition, English/Literature or related fields (must be conferred by June 30, 2019). This candidate will also have demonstrated significant experience teaching undergraduate writing courses and assessing student writing. We have a particular interest in candidates that have taught writing courses that serve historically underrepresented students and second-language learners. This candidate will also have interest in developing courses that inspire connections between writing and ethical issues, especially those that STEM students may encounter in their fields and disciplines.

Applications should be submitted to the UCSD on-line application collection system, AP-On-Line Recruit, at: https://apol-recruit.ucsd.edu/apply/JPF01937

*Teaching evaluations may be requested if the candidate is selected for an interview

Earl Warren College at the University of California, San Diego is committed to building an excellent and diverse faculty, staff, and student body, and invites applications from candidates whose experience has prepared them to contribute to our commitment.
