College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts (PSFA)

The College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts comprises seven professional schools and three departments committed to the pursuit of excellence in academic and artistic endeavors. With over 5,000 students and approximately 300 faculty, PSFA is recognized for its excellent academic programs that prepare students for professional careers in a wide spectrum of artistic, cultural, educational, social and technical fields. School of Public Affairs

The School of Public Affairs in the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts contains three programs: City Planning, Criminal Justice, and Public Administration, with each offering a master's degree. Criminal Justice and Public Administration also offer bachelor's degrees, with combined enrollments of over 1,200 students. The master's degree in Public Administration is also offered with either a concentration in Criminal Justice or City Planning. The School's MPA degree is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA). The City Planning program is pursuing accreditation with the Planning Accreditation Board, and currently has "candidate status". The School of Public Affairs emphasizes excellence in teaching, research, and service to the community, the University, and the discipline. The MPA is ranked 4th in California by US News and World Report (2012), and 14th of 200 schools in North America by Eduniversal (2014) based on factors including graduate salaries and student satisfaction. Position Description (Criminal Justice ):

The Program in Criminal Justice (CJ) in the School of Public Affairs at SDSU is seeking a faculty member at the assistant professor level with demonstrated publications and teaching experience for a fall 2019 appointment. The CJ program seeks to hire a scholar with demonstrated research in prevention policies, restorative justice, diversion programming, corrections, re-entry, and/or community supervision practices. The CJ program at SDSU seeks to hire a scholar who is collaborative and open to creating synergies with our criminology and criminal justice faculty currently focusing on these issues. Critical perspectives are especially welcome. This position requires expertise to teach courses in at least two of the following areas: corrections, restorative justice, community supervision practices, or law and society.

Given the interdisciplinary nature of our School, teaching and contributing to our collaborative programs is desirable. These include our Master of Criminal Justice and Criminology; Master of Public Administration; Master of City Planning; Online MPA (College of Extended Studies); and Latin American Studies.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in criminal justice or criminology or a closely related field by the date of appointment. Candidates should have demonstrated evidence of research publications, and the potential for program development and grant writing ability, with clear leadership potential in each of these areas being an asset.
