College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts (PSFA)

The College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts comprises seven professional schools and three departments committed to the pursuit of excellence in academic and artistic endeavors. With over 5,000 majors and approximately 300 faculty, PSFA is recognized for its excellent academic programs that prepare students for professional careers in a wide spectrum of artistic, cultural, educational, social, and technical fields. The College views its connection to the local and global community as a "laboratory for learning" and educational opportunities that prepare the student to engage in the worldwide community through creativity, involvement, leadership, and innovation are a hallmark of the PSFA experience. School of Public Affairs

The School of Public Affairs in the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts contains three programs: City Planning, Criminal Justice, and Public Administration, with each offering a master's degree. Criminal Justice and Public Administration also offer bachelor's degrees with combined enrollment of over 1,200 students. The master's degree in Public Administration is also offered with either a concentration in Criminal Justice or City Planning. The School's MPA program is accredited by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA). The City Planning program is pursuing accreditation with the Planning Accreditation Board, and currently has "candidate status", with a final accreditation decision expected in Spring 2019. The School of Public Affairs emphasizes excellence in research, teaching, and service to the community, the University, and the discipline. The MPA is ranked 5th among all MPA programs in California by Best Colleges (2018), and 5th among public universities in California by US News and World Report (2018).

Position Description (City Planning/Public Administration ):

The Program in City Planning in the School of Public Affairs is seeking a faculty member with demonstrated publication and teaching experience at the assistant professor level for a Fall 2019 appointment. This position requires expertise to teach courses in one or more of the following areas: data sciences and big data, research methods and data analysis, environmental planning/sustainability, social equity, or urban planning theory.

Given the interdisciplinary nature of our School, teaching and contributing to our collaborative programs is desirable. These include our Master of Science in Criminal Justice and Criminology; Master in Public Administration; online and offsite Master in Public Administration programs (College of Extended Studies); and our undergraduate degree programs in criminal justice and public administration (which offers a city planning concentration). In addition to the substantive teaching areas described above, it is highly desirable for successful candidates to have the ability to teach or conduct research in one or more of the following areas: big data, data science and social media, research methods, sustainability and environmental justice, or planning theory. Willingness to teach online and distance courses in our Masters of Public Administration is also desirable.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in city planning or a closely related field by the date of appointment. Candidates should have demonstrated evidence of research publications, and the potential for program development and grant writing ability, with clear leadership potential in each of these areas being an asset.
