"Archaeology of Human-Environmental Interaction, North America."
The Department of Anthropology at San Diego State University (SDSU) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of assistant professor in the archaeology of human-environmental interaction in North America beginning in Fall 2019. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Anthropology or related field by the time of appointment, a proven record of excellent publication, and potential for securing external research funding. Specialty interests may include transnational border issues, field-training opportunities (including experience in CRM or other forms of public archaeology), subsistence and residue analyses, other laboratory specialties in archaeological science, or other skills that complement existing departmental strengths. Applicants with fieldwork interests in the greater south-west of North America, including the US-Mexico border region, are especially welcomed. Applicants should discuss their record and/or potential for teaching excellence at the graduate and undergraduate levels, including how they will teach general anthropology courses, upper division courses, and graduate seminars in areas of expertise.
SDSU anthropology faculty and students address real-world problems through theoretically driven yet practical applications of anthropology, promoting an understanding of human diversity and commonality across the globe and through time. The department currently boasts 154 undergraduate students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree and 18 graduate students working on their Masters of Arts (M.A.) degree in Anthropology. Three primary factors guide the department's program offerings: 1) a dedication to a four-field approach, 2) an emphasis on experiential learning through hands-on field, laboratory, and internship opportunities, and 3) a focus on Applied Anthropology. Above all, the department's faculty members are dedicated teacher-scholars; they are active researchers and engaged instructors who regularly unite these tasks by involving students in their projects through firsthand field, lab, and internship opportunities and bringing their original research into student-centered learning environments.
