College Director CSJHU

College Director – Center for Social Justice and Human Understanding

 

Announcement is hereby made for a full-time, 12-month College Director position beginning immediately.  

 

Suffolk County Community College is an open admissions institution committed to serving a diverse student population in a variety of degree and career programs. 

 

This is a Guild (Unit 4) position, and, as such, the salary and benefits for this position are determined according to the salary and benefits plan for the Guild of Administrative Officers. 

 

Job Description:

·       Provide leadership in the management, development, operation and implementation of the programming of the Center for Social Justice and Human Understanding (CSJHU), with a focus on academic support and programming.

·       Oversee the daily operation of CSJHU's collection including maintenance, preservation, and display of artifacts in addition to creating presentations, tours and site visits of the collection.

·       Serve as a liaison with the President, Board of Trustees, and academic programs and administration of Suffolk County Community College.

·       Prepare periodic reports as well as annual reports to be presented to the CSJHU Directors and the College Board of Trustees.

·       Work with the SCC Foundation on fundraising strategies to identify donors and to coordinate donor relationship building; coordinate grant writing activities through the College’s Office of Grants Development.

·        Work with faculty to develop and provide educational opportunities for students at Suffolk County Community College.

·       Maintain the corporate records of CSJHU, prepare the agenda and resolutions for the Board of Directors, arrange the calendar of meetings, and submit all required filings with the NYS Attorney General and the IRS.

·       Manage the financial records of CSJHU, including preparation of budget proposals to the CSJHU Board and to the College, preparation of financial statements, arrange for audits in accordance with Board policy, arrange for insurance policies, and supervise all purchasing.

·       Conduct planning processes with the Board and advisory committees to establish short and long term plans to advance the CSJHU mission.

·       Supervise all staff assigned to CSJHU, including College employees and such employees as CSJHU may hire, as well as independent contractors, consultants, and volunteers.

·       As appropriate for academic programming, engage with community organizations and schools, building partnerships and coordinating efforts to advance the mission of the CSJHU.

·       Under the guidance of the President’s Office and working with College staff, maintain communication with the public, including media contacts, to establish awareness of CSJHU programs and activities.

·       Teaches assigned courses in accordance with description published in the College catalog and the approved course outline.

·       Engages in assessment of college-wide learning outcomes and demonstrates the use of the results of these assessments in courses and programming.

·       Will incorporate an appreciation of diverse lifestyles, cultures and perspectives into courses and programming. 

·       Actively participates in departmental, campus and College committees/meetings.

·       Participates in academic advisement and curriculum development, as well as professional development.

·       Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

Master’s Degree in Museum Studies, Public or Educational Administration, History or an academic field that relates to the Center’s mission; Knowledgeable about the Holocaust, genocide, slavery and civil rights; Demonstrated commitment and passion for the mission and vision of CSJHU; At least five years’ experience managing staff and volunteers, with a track record of successful leadership; Knowledge of fundraising methods and experience seeking foundation grants and private funding.  The successful candidate must be poised, personable and articulate, and must demonstrate qualities that can lead to the continued growth and advancement of the CSJHU.

 

Preferred:

Doctorate degree in Museum Studies, Public or Educational Administration, History or an academic field that relates to the Center’s mission. Meaningful experience in developing partnerships and community relationships; significant expertise in budget management and financial record keeping for nonprofit organizations.
