Job Description:

The Senior Network Engineer is a member of VCCS Information Technology Services. This position assists in designing and providing support for the large-scale enterprise network infrastructure including data, voice, video, and storage network services deployed over a wide geographical region. These services are used to support the enterprise-wise systems and are provided by a variety of equipment including but not limited to Cisco, Brocade, F5, and Palo Alto.

 

Duties:

  • Design, implement, and operate highly redundant, scalable, and reliable network services throughout the entire VCCS.
  • Respond to, research, and resolve operational issues and incidents.
  • Design, implement, manage and maintain datacenter networking equipment including switches, routers, load balancers, firewalls, and packet shapers.
  • Design, manage and/or maintain enterprise firewalls, firewall configuration systems, and log collectors.
  • Support IP based enterprise telephony and video services and systems.
  • Manage network and voice circuit installation and activations.
  • Design, implement and/or manage enterprise DNS and IPAM systems.
  • Provide tier 3 technical support to VCCS College IT staff.
  • Create and maintain clear networking documentation.
  • Work as a technical resource on assigned projects.
  • Stay current with networking and network security trends.

 

Requirements:

  • Strong experience managing large and complex converged network environments
  • Strong experience with IPv4 and IPv6
  • Strong experience with BGP and OSPF routing protocols
  • Strong experience with advanced networking practices and network virtualization
  • Experience with Tandberg / Cisco or similar video systems
  • Experience with F5 or similar load balancers
  • Experience with Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, or similar firewalls
  • Experience managing DNS and IPAM systems
  • Experience managing data/telecom vendors and projects
  • Record of superb customer service with excellent written/verbal communications skills
  • Ability to gather requirements and develop solutions based on business needs
  • Knowledge of current networking and network security trends
  • Minimum 3 years' experience with a strong Cisco background
  • A Bachelor's degree or a combination of relevant education and experience that provides the required level of knowledge, skills and ability to successfully perform the functions of the job requirements.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience with Cisco ACI
  • Experience with Cisco Call Manager systems
  • Experience with advanced inter-datacenter network design and management
  • Experience supporting the VMWare hypervisor

 

Additional Information:

The VCCS System Office is located in the beautiful Arboretum Business Park off of Midlothian Turnpike in southwest of Richmond. Please keep this in mind as you consider this position.

 

This position is a state classified position and the individual hired will be required to serve a one-year probationary period. The VCCS offers competitive compensation along with excellent benefits and opportunity for career development.

Hiring Range: $65,000 - $88,000. Salary commensurate with education and work experience.

 

About the Richmond Area: The Blue Ridge Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean are within 1 1/2 hours.
